April Manypenny Raines
owns and heads Manypenny Raines Law Office, PLLC. Attorney Raines is a
second-generation lawyer, where her father, J. Perry Manypenny, opened a law firm
in 1993. She worked as an associate attorney alongside her father up until his death
in 2012. Attorney Raines then founded
Manypenny Raines Law Office, PLLC, at the same location as her father’s firm in
the 1st Choice America Community Federal Credit Union building, 1st floor, at
the corner of 3rd Street and Carolina Avenue in Chester, West Virginia.
Attorney Raines is a 2004 Summa Cum Laude graduate of West Virginia University,
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a double minor in communication
studies and sociology, with an emphasis in crime and social control. She graduated
from the West Virginia University College of Law in 2007 with a Doctorate of
Jurisprudence Degree. She was a member
of the College of Law’s Legal Clinic, representing low income, rural West
Virginians with a variety of legal needs and she also completed an internship
with the First Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation of West
Virginia.
Prior to becoming a licensed attorney, Attorney Raines was a radio and television journalist, spending time with U92-FM of Morgantown, West Virginia, along with radio stations WDVE Radio and KISS-FM of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and WTAE television news in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Attorney Raines is licensed
to practice law in the States of West Virginia and Ohio, as well as in the
Northern and Southern Federal District Courts of West Virginia. She formerly held the appointed position as the City Solicitor for the Municipality of Chester, West
Virginia, located in Hancock County.
Attorney Raines is certified to act as a Guardian ad litem for abused and neglected children in West Virginia and Ohio. She is currently a part-time Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Hancock County, West Virginia, handling juvenile delinquency matters. She has also testified as an expert witness in legal proceedings on the subject of title and deed examination of real estate in West Virginia.
As an 8th
generation resident of New Cumberland, West Virginia and a
graduate of Oak Glen High School, Attorney Raines is proud to call Hancock
County her home. She is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in New
Cumberland, West Virginia and she and her husband, Timothy Raines, are the
proud parents of two beautiful sons.
